This winter has come full circle for Johneshwy Fargas as he went from not having a team to being named the MVP of the 2020-21 season in the Liga Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente in Puerto Rico.

As a member of the Gigantes de Carolina roster, Fargas was declared a temporary one year free agent by LBPRC back in November when the team announced that they would not be participating in the season due to COVID-19 restrictions and revenue losses. He would only spend one day on free agency before being picked up by the Eighteen Time LBPRC champions, the Criollos de Caguas.

Fargas rewarded his temporary club with a season that was unanimously voted by the Association of Sports Journalists of Puerto Rico as the best in the league.

Across sixteen games, he posted a .349 AVG/1.069 OPS, 4 HR and 13 runs scored while leading the league with 17 RBI and 7 SB. What makes the season even more impressive is the fact that in his six previous seasons with the Gigantes, Fargas had never posted a season above a .591 OPS. His career stat line with the team is a paltry .196 AVG/.514 OPS with 3 HR, 26 RBI, and 21 SB across 129 games.

As a player who is capable of playing all three outfield positions, and considering the Mets severe lack of outfield depth on the MLB roster right now (especially in center-field), his performance this winter may open up an opportunity for him to compete for a roster spot on the bench for the big league club.
