Fargas, 27, was called up to the majors by the Mets during the 2021 season and was briefly a part of the famed bench mob. In seven games with the Mets, Fargas had three doubles and a triple. He would also show off his elite speed and defensive skills with a brilliant catch in Miami.

After this seven game stretch, Fargas had landed on the IL. Later in the season, Fargas was designated for assignment in a series of moves where the Mets added Anthony Banda and Stephen Nogosek to the bullpen. Fargas would be claimed by the Cubs where he would hit .250/.290/.290 in 15 games. Overall, in his 22 games at the Major League level, Fargas hit .250/.264/.385 with three doubles, two triples, and five RBI.

Before being called up to the majors, Fargas had been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse. Overall, Fargas would play 31 Triple-A games between the Mets and the Cubs organization. He would hit .246/.295/.395 with six doubles, one triple, three homers, and nine RBI. He was also successful in 14 of his 16 stolen base attempts.

As the Cubs also designated Fargas for assignment after the conclusion of the season, and Fargas selected free agency, Fargas was eligible to sign this minor league deal with the Mets. Fargas should be expected to start the season in Triple-A where he will likely play center

It should be noted this is a much needed signing for the Mets organization. Both Khalil Lee and Nick Plummer where likely ticketed for Triple-A Syracuase, but now, they are ineligible to play due to the lockout. As a result, the Mets need to add players like Fargas to be able to form complete minor league rosters to begin Spring Training and to be set to begin the 2022 season.
