The New York Mets announced on Monday that a pair of prospects drafted in 2024 have received their next call-up. Left-handed pitcher, Jonathan Santucci and right-handed pitcher R.J. Gordon have both been promoted from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton. They will join the Rumble Ponies in Binghamton in time for them to open a series against the Altoona Curve on Tuesday.
Santucci is the Mets’ No. 11 prospect in the organization. The 22-year old Santucci was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2024 MLB draft. In his first professional season, he has appeared in 15 games for the Cyclones (13 starts), going 5-4 with a 3.46 ERA over the course of 67 2/3 innings. He gave up 26 earned runs on 62 hits, walked 23, and struck out 75. Since May 16th, however, Santucci is fourth among all minor league pitchers with a 1.35 ERA. He is 5-0 over his last nine games and has a 0.94 WHIP in that time as well. Through the month of June, he had been dominant. He had a 1.72 ERA with 37 strikeouts over the course of 31 1/3 innings. On Saturday alone, Santucci struck out a career-high nine batters.
Gordon, just 23-years of age, was drafted in the 13th round of the 2024 MLB draft by the Mets. He also started his professional career with Brooklyn. Over the course of 15 games (11 starts), he went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA. Over the course of 67 2/3 innings, he gave up just 23 earned runs on 60 hits, walked 31, and struck out 76.
Gordon’s 3.06 ERA is the 6th lowest in the South Atlantic League.
Coming off career-best months, the Mets’ prospects will now take their talents to Double-A as they look to continue to impress and work their way through the Mets farm system.
