The Mets’ final pick on the first night of the 2019 Draft was Josh Wolf, a right-handed pitcher from St. Thomas High School (TX), in the second round.

Wolf’s selection came after third baseman Brett Baty was taken in the first round.

The Mets went with two players from the prep ranks on night one for the second straight year. In 2018, Jarred Kelenic was followed up by Simeon Woods Richardson.

Wolf was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the 36th best player in the draft and committed to play college baseball at Texas A&M. His fastball has been clocked up to 97 mph but it’s more common to see him work in the low 90s. Wolf has impressed scouts with his poise and command of the strike zone throughout high school. The 18-year-old is listed at 6 feet 2 inches and 165 pounds, so he’s clearly facing a long development track.

The 53rd overall pick has a slot value of $1,370,400.
