Prospect lists season is just about wrapping up with Keith Law of The Athletic dropped his Top 20 Mets Prospects and MLB.com released their Top 30 Mets prospects for the 2020 season.

Law recently released his Top 100 for baseball with four Mets on list; No. 17 SS Ronny Mauricio, No. 48 C Francisco Alvarez, No. 92 RHP Matthew Allan, and No. 95 3B Brett Baty. Law has been more optimistic on the Mets than most recently, and that continues this year with him ranking their system No. 16 overall.

Four things that jumped out at me about Law’s Top 20 Mets list:

  1. Andres Gimenez down to No. 6, I see the shortstop getting dinged for what he did in the regular season without praise for leading AFL in OPS. Need to note that he was still above average offensively in the regular season (105 wRC+ in Double-A) while being banged up a bit early in the season.
  2. Tony Dibrell up at No. 12, way way too high for me after his velocity dropped to low 90s in 2019. The right-handers strikeout numbers dipped with his velocity and his walks went up.
  3. Outfielder Jake Mangum at No. 19, too high for a guy that will start the season having only played in short season Brooklyn and turns 24 this week. No power at all has me concerned about his Major League capabilities too.
  4. Franklyn Kilome down at No. 20, most list have him right around 11/12 and I agree with that. His secondary stuff and command looked better after coming over in a trade from the Phillies.

Interesting part of the MLB Top 30 is the inclusion of lesser-known young prospects in C/1B/OF Endy Rodriguez, RHP Joshua Cornielly, and RHP Jordany Ventura.

Biggest omission I see from the lists is outfielder Adrian Hernandez.
