As we saw when Michael Conforto was drafted by the Mets in 2014, top 10 picks are well regarded and are fast risers through both organizations and top prospect lists.

Considering how top 10 picks are viewed, it should not be a surprise if sixth overall pick Jarred Kelenic was ranked as one of the Mets top prospects when updated prospect rankings are released.

What would be a surprise is him being ranked the Mets top prospect.

Well, according to J.J. Copper of Baseball America that may just happen on their list as he believes Kelenic might just “edge out” Andres Gimenez to become the Mets top prospect.

Considering Gimenez has been rising in prospect status over the past year and his 113 wRC+ as a 19 year old in the Florida State League, this would be an emphatic statement that Kelenic truly was a great pick.

In fact, his even being in the top three is impressive in and of itself. In addition to Gimenez, both Peter Alonso and David Peterson are well regarded Mets prospects having good seasons.

Regardless of where Kelenic is ranked among these four players, it is good to see the Mets building a solid core of well regarded prospects.
