It is official.  Adam Rubin of ESPN is reporting that Kevin Plawecki has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas.

It must have been an exciting day for the Mets catching prospect as he was named the the MLB Future’s game earlier on, and now has made his next step towards the majors.

Plawecki tweeted:

“What a day! Excited to join the @LasVegas51s on Thursday! #LGM”

Adam Rubin of ESPN, has been told by sources that catching prospect Kevin Plawecki may be promoted to Triple-A very soon. With Travis d’Arnaud set to return on Tuesday, Plawecki, if promoted, should see a majority of time behind the plate for the 51′s no matter which catcher is coming back.

Plawecki has been tremendous in Binghamton this season, hitting at an average of .326 with six home runs and 43 RBI.  Even with the possibility of Anthony Recker or Taylor Teagarden being demoted to Triple-A, the Mets are still going to move forward with the progression of one of their prospects as opposed to playing a veteran catcher.

Rubin goes on to say that if it is Teagarden that draws the short straw he would could be claimed off waivers by another team or opt-out of his current deal and become a free agent.  If Recker is the one sent down he would go from a back up role in the bigs to a back up role in Triple-A.  Juan Centeno who currently holds the back up spot in Vegas could find himself dropped down a level if its Recker or stay as the backup in Vegas if it is Teagarden depending on what happens with him.
