According to the Times News the Mets have signed a five-year extension with the Kingsport Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Kingsports to keep the Kingsport Mets at Hunter Wright through at least 2020. Kingsport has been the Mets affiliate in the Appalachian League since 1980 (hiatus in 1983 because of field renovation) which is the 8th longest current affiliation in the minors.

Kingsport has won the league’s West Division two of the last three years and have won the Appalachian League twice, 1988 and 1995. The K-Mets started started playing at Hunter Wright Stadium in 1995 after playing in Dobyns-Bennett Stadium from 1980-1994.

In 2005 the K-Mets released an All Silver Anniversary Team that included David Wright, Jose Reyes, Darryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, Jason Isringhausen, and manager John Gibbons.

Last season was a great success as the Kingsport Mets went 40-28 on their way to winning the West Division by 5.5 games. However, they lost two games to one in the first round of the playoffs to the Greeneville Astros.  They were led by the Mets 2015 draft pick Patrick Mazeika (.354/.451/.540), Kevin Kaczmarski (.355/.415/.512), Thomas McIlraith (1.71 ERA, 6 wins), and 2014 8th rounder Dash Winningham (league leading 12 HR’s, 51 RBI).
