The issues with Cashman Field have been well documented, and it has left both the New York Mets and the Las Vegas 51s to look for a better home for the AAA team.
According to KTNV, there have been renewed talks to build a new stadium for the 51s in Summerlin. Summerlin is a 22,500 acre section of the City of Las Vegas that had been recently named by Money magazine as one of the best areas to live in Nevada.
The plan is to build an $85 million stadium next to the NHL practice facility for the expansion Vegas Golden Knights that will begin play during the 2017 – 2018 NHL season. The Howard Hughes Corporation, which has an ownership stake in the 51s, would donate the land in Summerlin for the proposed new Triple-A stadium.
Local business leaders are in favor of the project as they believe the addition of the 51s to the area will generate business.
At this point, there is no timetable as to either the plans to build a new stadium will be approved or when construction on a new stadium would begin.
There was a time my wife and I considered a move to Vegas. Summerlin would be the choice. I’m told its the best area hands down.
Oh by the way its sad and scary if the Mets are in any way involved in this move and transition because that would make it seem like the damn team ain’t leaving for years 🙁
Hopefully the Minnesota Twins like the new stadium so much that they decide to abandon Rochester, NY.
