Two recent mock drafts from Baseball American and MLB.com have tied the Mets to four different prospects for this month’s draft.

In Mock Draft 5.0, Baseball America mocked infielder Jett Williams (HS, TX) and RHP Brock Porter (HS, MI) to the Mets with picks 11 and 14 respectively.

On Williams, Baseball America notes that “I’ve heard it linked more to high-risk, high-reward profiles and one of those is Williams—who has excellent hands, athleticism, speed and an up-the-middle defensive profile. It sounds like the Mets really like Williams and he has gotten plenty of buzz in the 10-15 range, generally.”

Porter would break a trend of the Mets not selecting high school pitchers in the first round. On Porter, they note that “There’s tons of upside here, and perhaps most importantly, a clean bill of health. We’ve consistently heard Porter linked to the Mets so we’ll stick with that here.”

As for MLB.com, Jonathan Mayo mocks Daniel Susac and Jace Jung to the Mets, again, at 11 and 14 respectively. Susac and Jung are two of the higher profile college bats in this year’s class.

As for Susac, Mayo notes that “Porter gets brought up here, as do the aforementioned college hitters, along with Zach Neto. Susac gets the nod thanks to his ability to stick behind the plate.”

Jung, who has gained more buzz to the Mets in recent weeks, would be the 14th pick according to this mock. Mayo notes on Jung’s status that “Jung’s name had been mentioned as a Top 10 pick along with those other college hitters — and that could still happen — but he tailed off late in the year, causing him to slip ever so slightly.”

The 2022 MLB Amateur Draft starts with Round One on July 17th during the All-Star week festivities in Los Angeles. Mets Minors and Metsmerized will keep you up to date on the latest news and rumors in the next few weeks.
