ESPN‘s Keith Law has released his first mock draft, and in his draft he has the Mets drafting Texas Tech third baseman Josh Jung. The 21 year old Junior is hitting .359/.491/.641 with 19 doubles, a triple, nine homers, and 48 RBI in 45 games played this year. He was a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, and he earned five All American honors last season.

Ultimately, whether it is Jung or someone else, Law foresees the Mets will “take any of the top bats, college or prep, if one of those fell” to the 12th spot. That may become tricky as Law also foresees the Blue Jays also pursuing collegiate hitters, and they have the 11th pick in the draft.

There does seem to be momentum towards the Mets selecting a bat. For example, Baseball America first had the Mets selecting Kentucky pitcher Zack Thompson. Their updated mock draft has the Mets drafting prep outfielder Corbin Carroll.

The 2019 MLB Draft is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 3, and it will be aired on MLB Network. Over the next month, we should see any number of mock drafts and updated mock drafts. For his part, Keith Law believes he will be releasing his next mock within the next few weeks with three mocks before the actual draft. It will be interesting to see which direction the Mets will go in their first draft with Brodie Van Wagenen at the helm.
