The Mets announced on Friday afternoon that they’ve activated right-handed reliever Robert Gsellman from the injured list, optioned left-handed reliever Daniel Zamora to their alternate training site, and added infielder Luis Carpio to their 60-player pool.

Gsellman started the 2020 shortened season on the IL with right triceps tightness. The 27-year-old had a 4.66 ERA and 4.12 FIP in 63 2/3 innings for the Mets in 2019. The former start has struggled since posting a 2.42 ERA during his rookie season in 2016.

Zamora, 27, has a 4.08 big league ERA in 33 appearances for the Mets but he did not get into a game this season.

With veteran infielders Robinson Cano and Eduardo Nunez on the injured list along with infielders Amed Rosario and Jeff McNeil nursing nagging injuries, Carpio becomes much needed depth.

Carpio, 23, hit .282/.361/.380 with 19 doubles and four home runs in 113 combined games between Class-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton in 2019. The former organizational top 10 prospect has experience playing shortstop, second, third, and left field. He’s a good defender up the middle has solid range and good instincts.

The Mets will get their last look at Carpio, he becomes a minor league free agent at the end of the season.
