New York Mets infield prospect Luke Ritter was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for June 5 – 11. This is the first player of the week honors for Ritter in his professional career.

Ritter has been on a tear over the past week and really over his past 15 games. Ritter is on a stretch where he has hit 11 home runs over his past 57 at-bats. That culminated in a three home run game against the Reading Fightin Phils.

Over the past week, Ritter was 9-for-24 with a double, triple, five homers, and 12 RBI. That is a .375/.444/1.125 triple slash line. He would also draw three walks.

On the strength of this hot streak, Ritter now has a 154 wRC+ with Double-A Binghamton. He ranks third in the Eastern League in homers (14) and SLG (.568). He is fourth in the Eastern League in OPS (.957) just ahead of fellow Binghamton stand-out Matt Rudick.

With his hot hitting, Ritter has been promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. This will mark the third time in his professional career where he has been promoted to Triple-A. With Syracuse, he will have an opportunity to play across the infield.

Ritter has played at first, second, and third his entire professional career. He has predominantly played second base, but Ronny Mauricio has been playing there lately as the Mets look at the possibility of calling him up to the majors. However, it should be noted that in addition to Mauricio having a sprained right ankle, the Mets are also looking to give him some repetitions in right field.

For Binghamton, this marks the second time this season a player has earned player of the week honors. Third baseman Jos̩ Peroza earned the honors for the week of May 8 Р14.

Ritter became the fifth Mets prospect overall to earn player of the week honors. In addition to Ritter and Peroza, David Peterson (Syracuse), Stanley Consuegra (Brooklyn), and José Butto (Syracuse) earned the honors.
