Marcos Molina May Make Major League Debut Sunday

With the Mets having a double header on Sunday, the team is looking for a starter to pitch in the nightcap.  The Mets are tentatively hoping Seth Lugo will be able to make that start.  However, his ability to make that start will largely hinge on his bullpen tomorrow.

If Lugo is not able to go, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports Binghamton Rumble Ponies starter Marcos Molina will get the start.  If so, it will be the second time this season the Mets have pulled a pitcher from Binghamton to make their Major League debut.  Molina slated to pitch tonight for Binghamton, so he will be pitching on just two days rest if he goes for the Mets on Sunday.  With this being his first full season after Tommy John surgery, and his already landing on the disabled list once this season, it is possible he will not get the start for Binghamton tonight.

Molina getting the start is the logic choice as he does not require the Mets to make a move with their 40 man roster.  Molina had been added to the 40 man roster this past offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.  Currently, Molina is the only starting pitcher who is not in the majors or on the disabled list.

On the season, Molina has made 14 starts between St. Lucie (5) and Binghamton (9) with one relief appearance.  Overall, he is 4-9 with a 2.98 ERA, 1.147 WHIP, and a 7.0 K/9.

Molina was acquired by the Mets as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in January 2012 ($100,000 signing bonus).  He was recently ranked by MMN as the 17th best prospect in the Mets farm system.
