The EL announced that B-Mets left-hander Mark Cohoon has earned Pitcher of the Week honors after winning two games this week off two quality starts. His first start was part of a double-header, where he provided the Mets with a seven-inning complete game victory. He allowed just an unearned run off four hits and a walk, while striking out three.

He also won his start yesterday, against Erie, where he lasted six innings and allowed just one earned run off five hits and a walk. Cohoon began the season in the bullpen and worked his way back into the rotation with the constant shifting going around and some good performances.

According to Lynn Worthy, he credits some mid-season adjustments and work with pitching coach Glenn Abbott as the reason for his recent success.

“Usually, I’m mechanically pretty smooth, but I got in a span where I was breaking my hands real late going to the plate,” Cohoon said. “I was leaving a lot of balls high, a lot of balls were going out of the zone on me. I just finally got down and made that adjustment, just figured it out.”

Cohoon said getting his hand out out of his glove sooner helped him throw strikes regularly and not leave pitches up where they could get hit hard.

Well, best of luck to Cohoon as he looks to continue his hot streak throughout the rest of the season. He has gone five innings in each of his last ten starts, with four of his last five qualifying as quality starts.
