It was reported early this afternoon by Deesha Thosar of New York Daily News that one of the New York Mets’ top prospects, Mark Vientos, is being promoted to Triple-A Syracuse.

The six-foot-four, right-handed bat is currently ranked as the sixth-best prospect in the Mets’ system by MLB Pipeline. He is ranked at the Mets’ fifth-best prospect by Fangraphs.

The 2017 second-round selection, who is only 21-years old, has spent the whole season with Double-A Binghamton. In 274 at-bats, Vientos slashed .281/.346/.580. He also contributed an impressive 22 home runs and 59 RBIs. These numbers are good for a very strong OPS of .926. Note, the average MLB OPS is .724. This is by far Vientos’ best season in his professional career.

The 22 home runs rank seventh in all of Double-A and tied for 38th among all minor leaguers at any level. Vientos has also compiled a wRC+ of 143 which ranks seventh at the Double-A level and 85th among all minor leaguers at any level.

Worth noting as well, each of those rankings vastly improves when looking at players aged 21 or younger. He ranks 6th and 51st in home runs and wRC+ among minor leaguers aged 21 or younger at any minor league level.

The MLB Pipeline rankings list his ETA to the major league level as next season. It will be interesting to see how Vientos continues to progress at the next level in the minor league system. Nonetheless, this season he has cemented himself as one of the Mets’ top power bats in their system.

Will he be in a Mets’ uniform next season like MLB Pipeline projects?
