As Major League Baseball is in a lockout there’s still a trickle of minor league signings that either happened before the CBA expired and are being announced now or signings that can happen during the lockout because the player didn’t play in the big leagues in 2021.
Two weeks ago I tweeted that former Mets draft pick Matt Reynolds was returning to the organization. The 31-year-old made his big league debut with the Mets back in 2016 and last played in the majors with the Royals for three games in 2020. The infielder spent the entire 2021 season in Triple-A for the White Sox where he had a .768 OPS in 93 games.
Here’s a list of the minor league deals the Mets given out recently:
- Matt Reynolds – UT
- Jesus Vargas – RHP, The 23-year-old had a 4.40 ERA in 102 innings in High-A ball within the Dodgers organization in 2021. He has a 3.65 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in five minor league seasons.
- Yoelin Disla – RHP, Disla is an 18-year-old from the Dominican Republic. Listed at 6’5”, 195 pounds.

- Jaycey Benita – OF, The 18-year-old also from Curacao played in the 2016 Little League World Series where he hit .462 and pitched in three games. Jacob Resnick of SNY reports that his full name is Miriojaycey-Rachidnycander Ray Jean Tadeo Benita.
Earlier in the offseason, the Mets also signed right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez, catcher Nick Dini, and left-handers Rob Zastryzny and Nate Fisher to minor league deals.
