Matz, Rosario, Smith Place In Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects

Baseball America has revealed the their Top 100 Prospects list with three Mets youngsters coming in the group which is lead by Steven Matz at #13. Shortstop Amed Rosario comes in at #58 and first baseman Dominic Smith is #79, while BA gives both a 2017 ETA.

Matz still qualifies as a prospect despite making three starts in the playoffs (which don’t count against eligibility), he loses his prospect status with just 14.1 innings pitched. He went 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA in six regular season big league starts after dominating at Triple-A Las Vegas with a 2.19 ERA and striking out 94 batters in 90 innings. The 24-year old was ranked #33 on BA’s Top 100 prior to the 2015 season.

The 20-year old Rosario moves up 40 spots from where BA had him in their Pre-2015 Top 100 lists after hitting .253/.302/.329 between the St. Lucie and Binghamton Mets in 2015. Keith Law recently released his Top 100 with Rosario coming in at #42 and MLB Pipeline had him at #79.

Smith had a MVP season in the Florida State League which has seen him climb up prospects lists after not being on any outlets Pre-2015 Top 100. The 20-year old had a breakout season hitting .305/.354/.417 while leading the league with 33 doubles and 79 RBI.

In the rankings prior to the 2015 season the Mets had seven players in the Top 100 according to Baseball America. They were led by Noah Syndergaard (#11), Matz (#33), Brandon Nimmo (#45), Dilson Herrera (#46), Kevin Plawecki (#63), Michael Conforto (#80), and Rosario (#98).
