Ronny Mauricio’s first spring training hit was a tape measure home run. Apparently, this is the start of a hot streak for him.

In the spring training game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Mauricio hit his second homer of the spring. This one “only” traveled 413 feet:

His previous homer had an exit velocity of 100 MPH. This one was a tick behind at 108.6 MPH. More than the precise numbers is the results.

Like the Dominican Winter Leagues, Mauricio is showing off the power potential he’s had since the New York Mets gave him a then team record signing bonus.

With his hot start to the spring, it’s fair to start discussing his future. After his first homer, Mauricio said, “I want to be on this team. I want to be in the big leagues on this team.” (Mike Puma, New York Post).

While Mauricio has long been known to Mets fans, William Lugo is trying to make his own impression. Like Mauricio, he’s currently making the most of the opportunity presented to him.

Lugo’s blast was almost as impressive as Mauricio’s first homer of the spring. In total, it had an exit velocity of 103 MPH and traveled 437 feet.

In 2022, Lugo split time between Single-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn. Over 112 games, he hit .263/.347/.432 with 25 doubles, two triples, 14 homers, and 63 RBI.

Recently, MMN ranked Lugo as the Mets 21st best prospect. The 20 year old has been a versatile infielder who has flashed power.

MMN’s own Michael Mayer called Lugo a player to watch in 2023. Lugo is coming off a season where he had a 121 wRC+ while showing the ability to handle third base and shortstop.

As long as Lugo continues hitting power like this, people will pay attention. With that and his versatility, he has a bright future ahead of him.
