Jamestown 9, Brooklyn 5
The Jamestown Jammers used a five-run fifth inning rally to claw back and take the series finale, defeating the Cyclones 9-5 on Sunday afternoon. LHP Juan Urbina was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits and three walks over 1.0 inning of work. Offensively, it was L.J. Mazzilli who led the charge, going 2-for-4 with his first professional home run and three RBI for the Cyclones.
The Jammers scored a run in the second and a run in the third off of Brooklyn starterCarlos Valdez, and jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage. But in the top of the fourth, the Cyclones would draw even. Gavin Cecchini started the frame with a double and came around to score when L.J. Mazzilli sent the 0-1 offering over the left field wall for his first professional home run and knotted the score at 2-2.
In the fifth, the Cyclones would take their first lead of the game. Colton Plaia started the threat with a single before Anthony Chavez reached on an error and Patrick Biondi worked a walk to load the bases. Cecchini was issued a walk to force home a run, Mazzilli followed with a single to push another run across and Jared Kingconnected on a sacrifice fly to chase home the third run of the inning as Brooklyn took a 5-2 advantage.
At that point, the Cyclones were done scoring for the day, but Jamestown was just getting started. In the bottom of the fifth, Juan Urbina issued a one-out walk to Erich Weiss to start the threat and a pair of singles pushed him across to cut into the Cyclones lead. The real damage would come with two outs though, as Elvis Escobar singled to load the bases before Urbina walked his second batter of the frame to force home another run. Then, with Akeel Morris on the mound in relief of Urinba, Jeff Roy singled on a line to right field, where Jonathan Clark misplayed the ball allowing three runners to score and gave Jamestown the 7-5 edge.
The Jammers would tack on two insurance runs in the seventh, the first two earned runs that RHP Akeel Morris allowed during the 2013 season, to make the final score 9-5.
