A half-dozen teams have checked in with the Mets this offseason on the availability of Ike Davis and Lucas Duda, according to several reports including this one from Jon Heyman who says the Astros, Orioles, Rays, Brewers and Rockies all have checked in as the Mets field offers.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the team’s thinking told the Andy Martino of the Daily News that the club would rather trade Davis and keep Duda.

Adam Rubin believes that Davis is the more risky player to trade because he could end up being a 30-plus-homer guy with plus fielding skills. Of course he could continue floundering as he has for most of the last two seasons.

The Mets could just delay their decision and wait until deep into the offseason before making a trade in hopes that the limited power market will make Davis more attractive.

I think it’s just time for a change of scenery for Ike and I don’t think he’ll ever realize his potential with the Mets. As for keeping Duda, I’ll just remind you that I predicted he’d be the Mets Opening Day first baseman back in September.

Last week, the Mets and Brewers discussed a possible Ike Davis trade in exchange for Norichika Aoki. But the Brewers had no interest and prefer to keep Aoki who is set to earn a team friendly $2 million in 2014.

Over the last three seasons, Davis has seen his OPS decline from .995 to .771 to .661 while his strikeout rate has climbed all the way to a 33 percent.
