Ruben Tejada will be assigned to Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, as MMN first reported. MLB insider Jon Heyman later confirmed the news.

Tejada, who played in the major leagues with the Mets for parts of six seasons, re-signed with his original organization on March 23. He spent all of 2018 with the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate and had not been with another team until the Mets scooped him up.

Since then, Tejada, 29, had been in Extended Spring Training getting up to speed. He will be returning to Binghamton for the first time since 2009, when he hit .289/.351/.381 in 134 games. Tejada was in the major leagues the next year and would play 580 games for the Mets before being released on March 16, 2016.

Between the Mets, Giants, Orioles, and Cardinals, the Panama native is a career .251 hitter with 10 home runs and 158 RBI.
