The Mets are reportedly calling up prospect Luisangel Acuña from Triple-A Syracuse. Dariel Álvarez-Montes of Extra Bases reported the news.

Acuña is on the Mets’ 40-man roster, so they just need to make a corresponding active roster move. He is also postseason eligible because he was on the 40-man before Sept. 1.
Acuña signed with the Texas Rangers as an international free agent in 2018 for a bonus of $425,000. He played parts of four minor league seasons with the organization before being dealt to the Mets in exchange for Max Scherzer at last year’s trade deadline.
Acuña slashed .243/.317/.304 (76 wRC+) across 37 games with Double-A Binghamton to close out the ’23 campaign. In 131 contests with Syracuse this season, he hit .258/.299/.355 with seven home runs, 50 RBIs, 40 stolen bases and a 69 wRC+.
While Acuña’s development with his bat has stagnated, he will provide much-needed infield depth to the Mets while also profiling as a dangerous base runner. He has swiped at least 40 bags in each of his last four seasons while spending significant time at second base and shortstop. Acuña’s also recorded over 250 innings in center field in 2024.
He was not in Syracuse’s starting lineup on Friday night, meaning it’s likely that the Mets planned on calling him up before Francisco Lindor was pulled from the team’s 11-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies with lower back soreness.
