With the MLB Draft moving right along today, the New York Mets selected Anthony Frobose and Tyler McLoughlin with their 9th and 10th round picks, two players with previous two-way experience.
Pick No. 283: Anthony Frobose, SS/RHP
Continuing a bit of a theme for the Mets in this draft, they snag a local prep player with two-way experience out of Lakeland High School. Standing at 6’1″ and 170 pounds, the 17-year-old right-hander has primarily played shortstop, but has piqued the interest of some scouts for his pitching as well. He turns 18 in just three days, so a selection by the Mets amounts to quite a birthday present. Frobose is a native of Yorktown Heights, NY.
As expected from an infielder/pitching combo prospect, his athleticism has been praised across the board, with an unsurprisingly strong arm at SS. He has been described as a power-over-hit type of shortstop with solid tools, inclusive of the plus power and plus speed. Frobose was showing max exit velocities of 95 MPH with the bat, speaking to the potential power in his swing as he adds some more weight to his frame.
On the pitching side, his fastball sits at the low 90s, maxing out at 93 MPH with an above-average spin rate. His slider checks in around 74-77 MPH, and he has thrown a curve as well that clocked in at 72-73 MPH. His most recent start for Lakeland was good for five scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Frobose is currently committed to Rutgers University, and the 283rd pick in the Draft comes with a slot value of $196,800. At the very least, he looks to be an interesting project for the Mets organization.

Pick No. 387: Tyler McLoughlin, RHP
The 10th round for the Mets saw them select a red-shirt senior relief pitcher out of the University of Georgia in Tyler McLoughlin. McLoughlin is a former two-way player who dropped hitting to focus on pitching exclusively after transferring from Emory, where he spent three previous years. He transferred to UGA last year and opened his time with the Bulldogs with two scoreless innings. McLoughlin stands at 6’3″, 222 pounds, and is a native of Milton, GA.
McLoughlin boasts three offerings: a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and tops out around 97 MPH, a cutter that comes in around 85-88 MPH, and a curveball. While his time as a pitcher has been almost exclusively as a reliever, he made one start during his 2025 season. McLoughlin was the owner of a 4-0 record over that time, with one save in 19.1 innings of work. He pitched to a 4.19 ERA with a 10 BB/24K ratio. He also made the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
For reference, the 387th pick in the Draft has an assigned slot value of $187,300.
Last year, the Mets snagged Jaxon Jelkin and Brendan Girton in these rounds.
