Before the first game of the doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes. To make room for him on the roster, right-handed reliever Jimmy Yacabonis was designated for assignment.

This was Yacabonis’ second stint with the team. In this most recent stint, he pitched 4 2/3 innings over two appearances allowing one run.

Overall, Yacabonis made seven appearances for the Mets. He was 2-1 with a 6.59 ERA, 1.463 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9, and a 7.2 K/9.

Reyes, 23, made one start and five relief appearances early in the season for the Mets. He was 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA, 1.500 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9, and a 9.8 K/9.

He was designated for assignment July 4 and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse five days later.

Reyes started the first game of the doubleheader. He took the loss after allowing five earned on eight hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings while striking out four.

After the game, Reyes was optioned to Syracuse. Right-handed reliever Tyson Miller was recalled to give the Mets an extra arm in the bullpen.

This is Miller’s third organization this season. The Mets claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 4.

This season, he made seven appearances for the Milwaukee Brewers and one for the Dodgers. Overall, he has not recorded a decision while posting a 6.35 ERA, 1.412 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9, and a 6.8 K/9.

Miller did not appear in the game.

Additionally, the Mets reinstated outfielder Tim Locastro from the 60 day IL. Locastro tore the UCL in his right thumb in May.

With Brandon Nimmo dealing with a quadriceps injury, Locastro was inserted into the lineup as the center fielder. Nimmo played left for the first time since April 23, 2021.

Locastro was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. However, he would make a leaping grab in the sixth to rob Ronald Acuña Jr. of an extra base hit.

With Locastro activated, Abraham Almonte was designated for assignment. Almonte, 34, was recently recalled and played three games. He was 1-for-7 with a double, run, walk, and five strikeouts.
