The Mets announced that they have signed First baseman Brandon Allen to a minor league contract and have invited him to spring training.

Allen was signed by the White Sox in the 5th round of the 2004 amateur draft. In 2009, the White Sox then traded him to the Diamondbacks and he made his Major league Debut with Arizona at 23 years old. He played four seasons with four different clubs and batted .203/.290/.375 with 12 HR, 41 RBI, in 344 AB.

He spent all of 2013 at Triple-A for San Diego and batted .267/.347/.478 with 24 Doubles, 17 HR, and 76 RBI.

Based on how Allen does in spring training, it may put added pressure on Lucas Duda and the first base situation.
