Mets Make Flurry Of Minor League Roster Moves

The Mets have made a flurry of moves throughout the farm system over the last few days, so let’s dive right into it.

The headliners from the last few days are the assignments of top 2022 selections INF Jett Williams and RHP Blade Tidwell to the FCL Mets and the promotions of 3B Brett Baty and RHP Jose Butto to Triple-A Syracuse.

Williams was the 14th overall selection in the 2022 draft, and has started off 1-for-5 with two walks and a stolen base. Williams’s assignment was first reported on Monday morning by Jack Ramsey of MetsMerized and Mets Minors. Tidwell threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday morning and struck out two in the process. Ramsey also reported the news of Tidwell’s assignment this morning, and it was reported that Tidwell was sitting at 97 MPH with his fastball.

The St. Lucie Mets saw a roster shakeup, with talent going in and out. INF William Lugo was promoted to Brooklyn along with RHP Christian Scott and RHP Jeffrey Colon. Scott was a fifth round selection in 2021.

St. Lucie had four players join the team, with OF Blaine McIntosh, 3B Chase Estep, RHP Paul Gervase, and RHP Layonel Ovalles being promoted from the FCL Mets squad. Estep and Gervase were selected by the Mets just a few weeks ago, and McIntosh was a 13th round pick in 2019.

After news broke late last week that Baty and Butto were on their way from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to Syracuse, the Ponies added OF Rowdey Jordan and INF/C Nic Gaddis to their roster from the Brooklyn Cyclones. They also activated C Hayden Senger from the injured list.

As it does often times, these moves come with releases in the system. The Mets officially released four minor leaguers: C Brady Smith, RHP Willy Taverea, RHP Tim Adleman, and RHP Yennsy Diaz. Most notable is Diaz, who appeared in 20 games for the Major League team and pitched to a 5.40 ERA. Diaz’s release was first reported by Michael Mayer of MetsMerized and Mets Minors.

Finally, Ramsey reported that the Mets will be assigning 11th overall selection, C Kevin Parada, to the St. Lucie Mets in the immediate future. I have heard that this could come before the weekend. Parada will skip the FCL and head straight to the Florida State League.
