As of 2:00pm EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Tucson Padres 10:05pm EST
Chris Schwinden (4-8, 5.84 ERA) vs. Brandon Kloess (2-3, 4.38 ERA)
Schwinden put together his second straight quality start on July 2nd against Fresno, earning his first win since May 30th. He allowed two runs on five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in six innings pitched. He got July off to a good start, which is great since June was his worst month of the year. The right-hander went 0-3 with a 6.83 ERA and .357 opponent batting average in 27.2 innings pitched.
Binghamton Mets @ New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 5:05pm EST
Erik Goeddel (7-2, 3.68 ERA) vs. Marcus Stroman (4-2, 3.38 ERA)
Goeddel’s last start on July 1st against Altoona was cut short due to rain. I know, big surprise. He threw only one inning before the game was suspended to a later date, walking one and striking out three. His last legitimate start came on June 24th against Portland; he threw seven shutout innings, allowing six hits and one walk, while striking out seven. After compiling an ERA over 5.00 through the first two months of the season, Goeddel went 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in 25 innings pitched in June. That included allowing 20 hits and five walks, with 25 strikeouts.
Fort Myers Miracle @ St. Lucie Mets, 1:00pm EST
Matthew Summers (2-4, 3.59 ERA) vs. Michael Fulmer (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Fulmer’s rehab from knee surgery earlier this spring is finally complete; he will be making his High-A debut with St. Lucie this afternoon. In two rehab starts in the GCL, Fulmer went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA, striking out 13, walking one, and allowing nine hits in 12 innings pitched. He’s officially kicking off his 2013 after a breakout campaign in with Low-A Savannah last season. The right-hander went 7-6 with a 2.74 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 108.1 innings pitched.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Greeneville Drive, 4:05pm EST
Jake Kuebler (2-4, 2.54 ERA) vs. TBD
The official starter for Savannah hasn’t been announced yet after the doubleheader yesterday, but Kuebler hasn’t started a game since July 1st, so I’m going to take a guess with him. He earned his second straight loss in his last start against Hickory, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in five innings pitched. After lasting four innings in his first two starts of the season, Kuebler has lasted at least five innings in his last four appearances. In 28 innings as a starter, Kuebler owns a 1.93 ERA, .206 opponent batting average, and 3.19 GO/FO ratio.
Lowell Spinners @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 5:00pm EST
Simon Mercedes (1-0, 1.20 ERA) vs. Miller Diaz (0-1, 4.40 ERA)
Diaz takes the hill for his fourth start of the season, and second straight in front of the home crowd. His last appearance came on July 1st against Staten Island. The right-hander allowed four runs on four hits (one homer), three walks, and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Opponents are only hitting .250 off him so far in 2013, but he’s allowed 16 hits and six walks in 14.1 innings pitched.
Greeneville Astros @ Kingsport Mets, GM 1, 5:00pm EST
Jordan Mills (0-1, 2.35 ERA) vs. Carlos Gomez (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
Greeneville Astros @ Kingsport Mets, GM 2, immediately after
Enderson Franco (1-1, 3.21 ERA) vs. Chris Flexen (0-1, 5.63 ERA)
Gomez takes the hill for the K-Mets in Game 1 of today’s double dip in Kingsport. In 11.2 innings pitched this season (two starts), the right-hander hasn’t allowed an earned run yet, while scattering six hits, one walk, and striking out four hitters.
Flexen takes the mound in Game 2, trying to erase his bad start on June 30th against Elizabethton. He allowed five runs on seven hits (three homers), two walks, and three strikeouts. In two starts this season, Flexen has failed to make it to the fifth inning.
OFF
The GCL Mets are off today. They’ll hit the field for two against the Marlins tomorrow.
