As of 9:30am EST this morning, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Tacoma Rainiers, 10:00pm EST
Chris Schwinden (3-7, 6.37 ERA) vs. TBD
Schwinden’s last start came on the road against Tucson on June 21st. The right-hander allowed five runs, nine hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. It was the second straight start he allowed five runs and nine hits in five innings pitched, as he continues to struggle in Vegas. He’s thrown 20.2 innings in four June starts, and has pitched to an 0-2 record with a 8.27 ERA.
Trenton Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, 6:35pm EST
Zach Nuding (2-8, 3.42 ERA) vs. Cory Mazzoni (3-2, 3.99 ERA)
Mother Nature didn’t allow the B-Mets to take the field in Portland last night, so they’ll try again tonight at NYSEG Stadium. Mazzoni’s last appearance came on June 20th against Richmond, where he allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts in the win. It was his first victory since he beat Portland on May 19th. In his last four starts (24.2 IP), Mazzoni has struck out 34 hitters, while walking six.
Palm Beach Cardinals @ St. Lucie Mets 6:30pm EST
Zach Petrick (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Angel Cuan (6-1, 3.79 ERA)
Cuan takes the mound for the second straight time against Palm Beach. On June 21st, he allowed three runs on eight hits (two home runs), no walks and six strikeouts in the no decision. In five appearances at home (four starts) Cuan is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA, 19 strikeouts, and two walks in 23.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .290 off the southpaw at Tradition Field.
Rome Braves @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
Williams Perez (5-3, 4.17 ERA) vs. Logan Taylor (1-1, 2.83 ERA)
Taylor takes the mound after what could be considered his best start of the season. For the second consecutive appearance, he lasted six innings, and allowed one run on three hits, two walks, and a season-high nine strikeouts. His last two starts have been his most complete in 2013. He’s given up one run on seven hits, five walks, and 15 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. He’ll be happy to be pitching at Grayson Stadium; opponents are hitting .192 against him at home, but have posted a .298 mark against him when he plays on the road.
Brooklyn Cyclones @ Aberdeen Ironbirds, 7:05pm EST
Carlos Valdez (0-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. TBD
Valdez takes the hill for his second start of the NYPL season, and this just so happens to be his second start against Aberdeen. His first came on June 21st at MCU Park, where he took the no decision. The left-handed hurler allowed two runs while scattering eight hits, one walk, and two strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Kingsport Mets @ Greeneville Astros, 7:00pm EST
Yoan Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50 ERA) vs. Jandel Gustave (0-1, 1.80 ERA)
Gonzalez looks to bounce back in his second start for the K-Mets. His first appearance came against Johnson City on June 22nd. He allowed two runs on three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts in four innings pitched.
