Jacob Resnick of SNY reports New York Mets prospect Ryley Gilliam will undergo Tommy John surgery. This comes on the heels of an injury plagued 2021 season.

Gilliam, 25, made 20 appearances for Double-A Binghamton in 2021. He was 2-4 with one save, a 9.88 ERA, 1.610 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, and an 8.2 K/9.

Gilliam was the Mets 2018 fifth round draft pick out of Clemson University. When he was drafted, many expected him to be one of the first prospects in that draft to make the majors.

Tylor Megill would become the first prospect from that draft to make his debut with the Mets. With respect to Megill, his chances of making the Opening Day rotation were bolstered with Jacob deGrom being shut down with a stress fracture in his right scapula.

Megill was slated to begin the season with Triple-A Syracuse. Syracuse’s season opens on April 5. The team is doing a 51 degree guarantee for the opener wherein if it hits all the fans in attendance will receive a ticket for another game over the first two months of the season.

Former Mets prospect Adam Oller was informed by the Oakland Athletics he made their Opening Day roster. Oller, 27, was part of the package sent to the Athletics for Chris Bassitt.

Oller, 27, was selected by the Mets in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft. In his one year with the Mets organization, he made 23 combined appearances for Binghamton and Syracuse going 9-4 with a 3.45 ERA, 1.167 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9, and a 10.4 K/9.

Longtime WFAN Mets reporter, Eddie Coleman, announced his retirement after 35 years with the station.

Finally, Jake Seiner of the AP, reports “some teams are not taking their families into account as part of a new policy guaranteeing housing for players.” This is a confirmation of MMN‘s reporting on the new minor league housing policy.
