Tong had a fantastic season that saw him rise from the 33rd ranked prospect to within the top 5.

Tong’s career started off a little rocky, as he put up an ERA over 5 across the FCL and Low-A team while making only eight starts (21 IP).

Going into 2024 there weren’t many eyes on Tong, but he went absolutely bonkers to start the season. Tong started the year off with 18 scoreless innings across four appearances (two starts). His continued dominance led to an early-season promotion to the Brooklyn Cyclones (High-A), where he spent a majority of his season. He hurled 85 innings for the Cyclones, where he put up a 3.71 ERA and a fantastic 2.62 FIP. Good enough to earn him a second promotion to Binghamton (Double-A), where he made two starts (9.1 IP) striking out 14 batters and allowing only three Earned Runs.

Tong has shown he has the “stuff” to that can play in the Big Leagues, as he posted a 104 Stuff+ in the Florida State League. His fastball has great movement with solid velocity, and when you pair that with his curveball, it is clear why he made his way into the top 5 prospects for 2025. Look no further than his 50% whiff rate to understand that Tong’s stuff is legit. He also has a cutter, changeup, and slider that he works in occasionally.

Tong is expected to start the season in Double-A, however, if he can have a start like he did this past season we could see him in Triple-A sooner than later. If he can garner better control his pitches, it will be very interesting to see how things play out this year.
