The MRI results indicate New York Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio has a bone bruise in his left ankle. Mauricio will avoid the IL, and he is considered day-to-day.

Mauricio originally injured his ankle on June 4. Mauricio was playing second base, and he injured his left ankle on a tag play.

Of note, Mauricio only had 10 innings of experience at second base prior to this season. The Mets have been playing Mauricio at second to prepare him for a potential call-up to the majors. When healthy, the expectation is Mauricio will also play right field.

In 60 games this season, Mauricio is hitting .320/.360/.524 with 23 doubles, two triples, eight homers, and 35 RBI. In the four games since his injury, Mauricio has slumped going 2-for-16 with no extra base hits and three strikeouts.

Will Sammon of The Athletic reports left-handed pitcher José Quintana has joined the St. Lucie Mets and is expected to begin a rehab assignment. Quintana has been sidelined after bone graft surgery during spring training.

This will mark the first time Quintana has pitched in the Mets minor league system since 2006. At that time, he pitched for the Mets in the no defunct Venezuelan Summer League. After that season, he was released only to find his way back to the Mets 17 years later.

Sammon also notes Elieser Hernández has a locker in the Mets clubhouse. Hernández, 28, was obtained from the Miami Marlins this past offseason along with Jeff Brigham with the Mets sending prospects Franklin Sanchez and Jake Mangum to the Marlins.

Hernández began the season on the IL with a shoulder strain. He had been transferred to the 60 day IL on May 10. With the Mets not having a full 40 man roster, a roster move will not be needed to add Hernández back to the active roster.

However, the Mets will need to send down a player to the minors to active Hernández. As of this moment, the player to be sent down is not known. On that note, the Mets have been discussing adding another reliever and skipping Tylor Megill‘s next start due to his struggles this season.

Finally, Pete Alonso has been seen taking ground balls at first base prior to the game against the New York Yankees.
