The New York Mets have made a number of minor league transactions. The moves alter the dynamics of the Mets Major League bench and bullpen.

First and foremost, newly acquired Trevor Gott has been activated. Gott, 30, was acquired from the Seattle Mariners along with Chris Flexen in exchange for left-handed minor league reliever Zack Muckenhirn.

Flexen was designated for assignment after the trade.

Gott has made 30 appearances for the Mariners. He is 0-3 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.414 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and a 9.9 K/9. He is arbitration eligible after this season.

Notably, Gott has a 101 ERA+ and 3.02 FIP suggesting he’s been better than his numbers. Over at our parent site MMO, Michael Famulari explained how Gott “is capable of performing at a higher level.”

With Gott being activated, the Mets made room for him on the roster by optioning right-handed reliever Jeff Brigham to Triple-A Syracuse. Brigham has struggled much of this season, but especially over his last eight appearances where he’s posted an 11.12 ERA.

On the season, Brigham has made 32 appearances for the Mets. He is 0-2 with a 5.16 ERA, 1.045 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9, and a 10.0 K/9.

Additionally, the Mets have designated Denyi Reyes for assignment. Reyes made six appearances for the Mets this season going 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA, 1.500 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9, and a 9.8 K/9.

Reyes was predominately used as a starter with Syracuse. Since his last demotion, he made eight starts and two relief appearances going 0-2 with a 6.81 ERA.

In addition to the bullpen machinations, the Mets adjusted their bench calling up DJ Stewart. Stewart, 29, appeared in 51 games for Syracuse hitting .239/.362/.516 with six doubles, 16 homers, and 41 RBI.

Stewart was hot in June hitting .290/.412/.638, which led to this promotion. Stewart would make an appearance in the Mets 8-5 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He pinch ran for Daniel Vogelbach in the seventh, and he would score on Francisco Álvarez’s homer off former Met Miguel Castro. In the ninth, Stewart came up with the bases loaded and hit a sacrifice fly.

To make room for Stewart on the roster, Danny Mendick was optioned to Syracuse. In four games, Mendick was 0-for-7 with a strikeout.
