Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports LHP David Peterson will travel north with the New York Mets to Washington, D.C. for the season opener. DiComo says it is not yet clear if Peterson will be a part of the Opening Day roster or if he will be a part of the taxi squad.

Peterson could be an additional left-handed pitcher in the Mets bullpen as the season begins. With rosters expanded to 28 players, it does give the Mets the opportunity to carry Peterson in this role and/or as a long man. Peterson would also be insurance for Max Scherzer, who is dealing with a hamstring issue. On that note, Scherzer has declared himself ready for Opening Day.

OF Travis Jankowski has been informed by the Mets he will make the Opening Day roster. While it probably had no bearing on the decision, Brandon Nimmo‘s neck injury likely reinforced the need for Jankowski to make the roster. Last season, Jankowski had a 93 wRC+ and 2 OAA in the outfield for the Philadelphia Phillies.

As the 40 man roster is full, the Mets will need to make a 40 man roster move to officially add Jankowski to the roster. Check back with MMN for updates on that move.

LHP Alex Claudio was informed by the Mets he will not be making the Opening Day bullpen, and he has been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse. Claudio made 41 appearances for the Los Angeles Angels last season going 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA, 1.592 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, and an 8.3 K/9.

Mets great Mookie Wilson will be throwing out the first pitch for the Syracuse Mets home opener. The Syracuse roster has yet to be released, but as we see above, we are slowly learning the names of the players who will be making the Opening Day rosters for the MLB and Triple-A squads.

The Syracuse Mets have also announced their Promotional Schedule for the 2022 season. The promotions begin on Opening Day with a bucket hat giveaway and fireworks after the game is over. Another highlight for the opener is Taco Tuesday where fans can purchase three tacos for $10.
