Earlier, the Syracuse Mets had announced LHP Thomas Szapucki would be their Opening Day starter. As reported by MMN‘s own Michael Mayer, Szapucki will be followed in the rotation by LHP Mike Montgomery.

Montgomery has not been a full-time starter in the majors in his entire career. Last season, he pitched as a starter in the KBO until he was released. In his 11 starts, he was 2-5 with a 5.37 ERA, 1.615 WHIP, 6.6 BB/9, and a 9.5 K/9. Notably, Montgomery signed with the Samsung Lions of the KBO after he did not make the Mets out of spring training last season.

At the time this article was published, the Syracuse Mets Opening Day roster still had not bee released. Obviously, the Max Scherzer hamstring injury will have some impact on the rosters for the Mets and Syracuse. With respect to that point, Tylor Megill is likely going to make the Mets Opening Day roster, and his names has been in the mix as an Opening Day starter.

The Mets Opening Day roster will include Chasen Shreve. Shreve had signed a minor league deal with the Mets entering spring training with the expectation he would make the team. With the Mets 40 man roster full, the team will need to make a move prior to the season opener.

The St. Lucie Mets have released their promotional schedule. As noted by St. Lucie, they have partnered with Marvel Studios to create multiple “MARVEL Super Hero Days.” Some highlights for the 2022 season include:

  • April 16: Game worn Dr. Strange jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Voices for Children of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast
  • June 4: Star Wars Night
  • July 16: Marvel Defenders of the Diamond Night. Game worn jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit Special Olympics Florida
  • August 6: Summer Santa Celebration. Santa will be at the park with proceeds from the event benefiting Christmas 4 Kids and WPSL Christmas Kids

St. Lucie is set to begin their season on the road Friday as will Binghamton and Brooklyn. Syracuse’s season will begin tomorrow at home, which is one day before the New York Mets are set to begin their season in Washington.
