Phillip Evans batting

We return to the Players of the Week series, after the Player of the Month of May awards were handed out last week. No one player truly dominated as in weeks past, though once again there were some tough omissions.

Offensive Player of the Week – Phillip Evans (Binghamton Mets)

Evans, hit to a .444 average with 12 hits, five of which were doubles and 17 total bases. He also drove in six runs which tied for the most within the organization for the week. If he has enough PA, Evans and his .329 batting average would actually lead the B’Mets.

Honorable Mention – Patrick Biondi (STL)

Biondi, who also hit .444 for the week. In addition to having two doubles and a triple, Biondi added two stolen bases to bring his total to eight on the year.

Starting Pitcher of the Week – P.J. Conlon (Columbia Fireflies)

All Conlon did for an encore to his Pitcher of the Month award is pitch 10 innings of one run ball against the Hagerstown Suns. His game score of 86 is the highest of any pitcher in the organization this year.

Honorable Mention(s) Rainy Lara (B’Mets) Ezequiel Zabaleta (DSL Mets 2)

Lara took to the hill twice this past week, allowing two runs in 12 innings of work, striking out 10 in the process. In his last start Lara pitched seven innings of three-hit ball.

Ezequiel Zabaleta, the right-hander threw five innings of shut out baseball striking out five in in his 2016 debut.

Kevin McGowan

Relief Pitcher of the Week – Kevin McGowan (St Lucie Mets)

You can say I am taking the cheap way out since McGowan started this week. But after throwing a scoreless frame in the second game of a double header on June 2, McGowan tossed five no-hit innings before being pulled in the sixth on June 5. An impressive outing that deserves recognition.

Honorable Mention – Tim Peterson (B’Mets)

Peterson returns to the list after settling in the Binghamton bullpen. Pitching in three games, totaling four innings allowing one hit and walking none while striking out four.

Defensive Player of the Week – Milton Ramos (Columbia Fireflies)

This should just be renamed for Ramos, but with for ground ball pitchers to be successful, they must have solid infielders. Very simple. Ramos gave his typical stellar glove work adding four double plays on the week.

Honorable Mention Ivan Wilson (Col)

Wilson picked up his first assist on the season with a solid throw out at third base while continuing to cover a ton of ground in center field.
