SACRAMENTO 5, LAS VEGAS 2

Sacaramento benefits from a 3-run eighth inning to down the 51’s for the second night in a row 5-2.  Las Vegas was having difficulty scoring runs or producing any offense at all against the River Cats starter Dan Straily.  They were able to get to the bullpen a little but it was too late.  Joel Carreno started the game for the 51’s and provided them with six strong innings giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts.  It was his second start of the season and his 14th appearance overall.  Josh Satin’s Sac-fly RBI got the 51’s on the board in the eighth inning and Daniel Muno added to it with an RBI double in the ninth but that was it for the offense.  Las Vegas will look to stop the losing streak at four games when these two teams lock up again on Sunday.  Giancarlo Alvarado will get the start for Las Vegas.  (box score)

BINGHAMTON 8, NEW BRITAIN 6

The Binghamton Mets needed two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to win their second straight against New Britain 8-6.  Hansel Robles started for the Mets and was ineffective giving up all six New Britain runs over 5.2 innings.  The B-Mets would use four other pitchers to close out this one with John Church recording the win thanks to the late runs.  Chase Bradford would get his 10th save of the season.  Only one Met player would miss out on the hit party but every starter did reach base safely in this one.  Kevin Plawecki hit a home run for the third straight game and ended Saturday going 3-for-3.  Darrell Ceciliani went 2-for-4 with the game-winning 2-run double.  Binghamton will look to make it three straight against New Britain on Sunday with Angel Cuan scheduled to make the start.  (box score)

ST. LUCIE 5, PALM BEACH 2

The St. Lucie Mets took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning and added three more to essentially secure the win over the Palm Beach Cardinals 5-2.  Palm Beach tried to make a game of it scoring a run in the ninth but that would be it.  Gabriel Ynoa who is a former Mets Minor Player of the Week, pitched a very strong seven innings giving up just one run and striking out a season high seven.  It was his fourth win of the season.  Ryan Fraser would come in for two innings to pick up his first save.  Cam Maron provided all the offense the Mets would need, going 4-for5 driving in four runs, and is now batting .385 over his last ten games.  Jairo Perez was responsible for the other St. Lucie run having a nice day of his own going 3-for-4.  St. Lucie will looks to make it seven wins in a row in the final game of the short two-game series against Palm Beach.  Steven Matz is on the hill Sunday for the matinee.  (box score)

SAVANNAH 5, LEXINGTON 1

The SandGnats avenged their loss against the Legends on Friday by beating them on Saturday.  John Gant picked up his fifth win of the season throwing seven scoreless innings striking out five.  It was the second time this season that Gant didn’t allow a run.  Akeel Morris entered the game in eighth inning.  Up until Saturday, Morris had made 12 appearances without allowing a run spanning over 24+ innings.  That incredible streak would come to an end thanks to a lead-off triple by the Legends Samir Duenez.  Duenez would score a run the very next batter on a ground out.  L.J. Mazzilli hit his fifth home run of the season, and Victor Cruzado would drive in two runs for the SandGnats to help secure their 32nd win of the season.  The final game of the four-game series is scheduled for Sunday with Chris Flexen making the start.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

When you have a pitcher throwing seven scoreless innings in one game and a player going 4-for-5 with four RBI in a different game, it makes choosing one as the player of the night difficult.  So instead of picking one I have decided to go with both.  The Mets Minors Co-Player of the Night goes to John Gant of Savannah and Cam Maron of St. Lucie.
