EL PASO 4, LAS VEGAS 3

Las Vegas would trail by just two runs heading into the ninth inning on Friday, but would fall short and drop the series finale against El Paso 4-3.  Giancarlo Alvarado started the game for the 51’s and dropped his second straight decision and is now 1-2 on the season.  After a stellar first start back on May 15th, Alvarado has had difficulty finding the success he had.  On Friday, Alvarado went five innings giving up three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.  The biggest issue with his starts so far is his control.  In twenty innings as a starter Alvarado has walked 15 batters.  The Las Vegas bullpen was good in relief giving up one unearned run and no hits.  On the offensive side of things, the 51’s had plenty of opportunity to score runs but couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position.  They went 1-for-9 in the game and also stranded 10 runners.  Andrew Brown recorded his 12th home run of the season in the first inning, and Josh Satin went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the loss.  The 51’s are back home to face Reno, with Darin Gorski set to make his first Triple-A start this season after being called up on Saturday.  (box score)

NEW BRITAIN 4, BINGHAMTON 0

The Binghamton Mets surrendered four runs in the fourth inning and only collected five hits as they get shutout by the New Britain Rock Cats 4-0.  Angel Cuan started the game for the Mets and was on the hook for the loss after throwing six innings, giving up all four of the New Britain runs.  The B-Mets had plenty of chances to get some runs across, but like Las Vegas, had a difficult time with runners in scoring position going 0-for-10 in the game.  Kevin Plawecki had his eight-game hit streak snapped with an 0-for-4 night.  Binghamton will get their chance to get back at New Britain as the two teams face-off again on Saturday with Matthew Bowman getting the start.  (box score)

BREVARD COUNTY 3, ST LUCIE 1

Matthew Koch would suffer his first loss of the season, as Brevard County defeats St. Lucie 3-1.  It was the Mets second loss in a row, and their fourth loss out of their last five games.  Koch went 5.2 innings on Friday giving up all three runs (one earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts.   Eudy Pina drove in the lone run for St. Lucie in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly bringing Gilbert Gomez home.  St. Lucie continues their homestand on Saturday when they face Daytona.  Gabriel Ynoa is the scheduled starter.  (box score)

ROME 7, SAVANNAH 6

The Rome Braves got some late inning offense, and halt a late surge by Savannah to take down the SandGnats 7-6.  Miller Diaz made the start for Savannah looking for his sixth win in a row, but ended up with a no-decision.  Diaz threw 100 pitches in 4.2 innings giving up three runs but did strike out a season high nine batters.  Tyler Vanderheiden was called upon to give the SandGants two innings of relief to close the game out but couldn’t get the job done.  Savannah was given offense but couldn’t keep the Braves from scoring.  Five SandGants recorded two hits, and were 6-for-13 as a team with runners in scoring position.  Jeff McNeil lead the way going 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI.  Both teams will be back in action for the third of four against Rome.  Robert Gsellman will be on the hill looking for his first win since April 25th.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

It was a very disappointing night for the New York Mets organization as a whole, as every single team (including the Mets) lost.  It can’t be everyday that there is an organizational sweep although that would be great.  With his three RBI, Jeff McNeil is the Mets Minors Player of the Night.
