Las Vegas 1 (16-14), Sacramento 0 Box Score

Left field Ty Kelly and righty Rafael Montero had a great day avenging the Major League Club against RHP Chris Heston. Montero and the bullpen blanked the Giants Triple-A Affiliate, while the 51’s had nine hits and played some true Wallyball.

Montero was effective but not conservative with his pitches, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings, while giving up four hits and three walks, one intentional and struck out six. LHP Josh Smoker struck out one in the only batter he faced. RHP Jeff Walters walked one in his scoreless inning. RHP Paul Sewald continues to pitch well with a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one. The Vegas Native has thrown six consecutive scoreless appearances. LHP

Josh Edgin struck out both batters he faced and has now struck out 12 batters in eight innings this year. RHP Chase Bradford nailed down the last out of the game for his second save of the season.

Kelly went 4 for 4 with a run scored and is hitting a scorching .427. SS Matt Reynolds drove in the only run in a 2 for 4 performance with a double. CF Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 4 with his third steal. 1B Johnny Monell had a double in his 1 for 4 day. RF Travis Taijeron collected a hit and a strikeout in his day. SS Gavin Cecchini did not play for the 3rd straight day with a sore back.

Reading 5, Binghamton 3 (14-14) Box Score

Dominic Smith had the chance to do some damage with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, but instead he flew out as Binghamton lost to Reading. RHP Tyler Pill pitched a strange game against the Phillies Double-A Affiliate and even helped himself offensively, but the team dropped the first game of the series.

Pill had an up-and-down start, with a career best twelve-strikeout but gave up five runs in a 7.1 inning performance. He gave up ten hits and a walk in the outing, and also drove in two of the three runs on a single. In Pill’s career, he is a .417/.420/.563 hitter in 48 at bats. LHP David Roseboom finished B-Mets pitching with two more outs, and has been flawless in his last four innings.

SS Phillip Evans had a 2 for 4 day, raising his batting average to .259. Kyle Johnson picked up a double in a 2 for 4 day, with a strikeout. RF Jared King picked up a double in four at bats and threw out a player at home. 3B Derrik Gibson and 2B L.J. Mazzilli also picked up a hit each in their game. Smith went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

Injury note – Jeff McNeil had surgery for a sports hernia and is hoping to be back in 4 to 6 weeks.

St. Lucie 14 (17-13), Jupiter 6 Box Score

St. Lucie decimated the Marlins High-A affiliate Jupiter with an 18-hit barrage, including multiple hits from everybody but RF John Mora, who contributed in his own way. The starting pitching wasn’t as good as Chris Flexen didn’t pitch well but the rest of the bullpen continued to shut it down.

Let’s get to the long wind that is the offense, here we go: C Tomas Nido went 2 for 5 with his first home run of the year and three RBI. He has driven in five in his last three games. 3B Jhoan Urena is starting to get into the swing of things with his second multi-hit game in a row in a 2 for 5 day with a home run himself. His triple-slash has risen to .243/.296/.355.

1B Michael Katz went 3 for 4 with a double, RBI, strikeout, and walk. CF Champ Stuart went 2 for 4 with a walk. 2B Luis Guillorme went 2 for 5 with an RBI and two strikeouts, which is encouraging, since he has not been good offensively overall, going 7 for 39 (.179) in his last 10 games, while walking 5 times. 1B Kevin Taylor continued to hit with a 2 for 4 day with two runs scored, RBI, hit by pitch and strikeout. He is now sporting a .354/.455/.538 slash line for the year. Mora was 0-4, but drove in two on a ground out and a sac fly.

RF Wuilmer Becerra was 2 for 3 with two RBI including a sac fly, and was hit by a pitch, and scored once. He is now hitting .424 on the season, second in the minors behind only Austin Allen who is hitting .425.

SS Amed Rosario was 3 for 4 with a triple (video below), and a walk, while driving in two and scoring three times. However, he committed his sixth  error that led to a run, and was caught stealing in the first inning. He is now hitting .342/.386/.550 in 29 games and has walked 6 times in his last 10 games, and struck out 3 times. It’s time to consider a promotion, Mets Front Office.

Flexen didn’t fare as well as the lineup, giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out three. He has given up four runs in three of his last four starts. RHP Kevin McGowan also gave up a run on three hits, including a home run. LHP Alberto Baldonado and RHP Ben Griset each pitched in a scoreless inning each in the win.

Columbia 6 (17-14), Greenville 4 Box Score

Columbia beat up on the Red Sox A-ball Affiliate as the team hit five doubles, and Chase Ingram struck out six, but had his worst start of the season. SS Milton Ramos led the offense with two hits.

Ingram pitched five innings, but wasn’t too effective as he gave up four runs on four hits and four walks, but he continues to strike out plenty with six. He is currently sixth in the South Atlantic League with 36 strikeouts.

RHP Tyler Bashlor flirted with trouble with two walks and two hits, and four strikeouts in 2.1 scoreless innings. Bashlor topped out at 98 MPH with his fastball last night. RHP Alex Palsha nailed down his third save, finishing the rest of the game and striking out two.

Ramos went 2 for 3 with two doubles and a walk, while driving in two, but was caught stealing. 2B Jean Rodriguez also collected two hits in a 2 for 5 performance while driving in one and striking out once. 1B Dash Winningham scored two on a double in the third inning, and walked as well. 3B David Thompson also collected a double and a strikeout. C Tyler Moore doubled in a run in a 1 for 3 day. LF Vicente Lupo and CF Kevin Kaczmarski both collected singles.
