Syracuse (54-55) 4, Pawtucket (48-60) 3 Box Score

The Syracuse Mets racked up plenty of hits in the game but were unable to score through the first seven innings of the game as the team was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. In the eighth inning though, with the team down 3-0, Guillorme led the comeback charge with a two run home run off former big leaguer Hector Velazquez to pull the team within one. Another run scored via a wild pitch later in the inning giving Guillorme a chance to win in it the bottom of the ninth inning with runners on first and second with two outs. After taking the first pitch for a ball, Guillorme pulled a down and outside pitch into right field for the game winning RBI.

  • RHP Ervin Santana: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 2 BB | 2-1, 3.99 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
  • RHP Chris Flexen: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, Win | 5-2, 3.72 ERA, 1.38 WHIP

Despite allowing nine base-runners on the day, Santana got outs when he really needed them holding the Red Sox to a 1-for-8 mark with runners in scoring position. The performance was his fourth straight quality start in (AAA).

Binghamton (56-50) 6, Erie (60-46) 3 Box Score

  • SS Andres Gimenez: 2-for-2, 2 R, HR(6), RBI(28), BB | .249/.314/.386
  • 3B Will Toffey: 2-for-2, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI(24), BB | .232/.359/.362

MLB.com’s second best prospect in baseball, Casey Mize, did not have his best stuff and Rumble Ponies capitalized with a five run rally in the fourth inning. David Thompson, Gavin Cecchini, Toffey, and Quinn Brodey each drove in RBIs during the rally and chased Mize out of the game. The team’s first run of the game came on a second inning home run by Gimenez as he capped out a tremendous month of July where he hit .295 AVG/.837 OPS with 3 HR, 11 RBI, and 6 SB.

  • RHP Kevin Smith: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 1 BB, Win | 2-0, 1.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP

Smith continues to have zero issues with the skill level jump from (A+) to (AA) as he registered his third straight solid start in as many games for Binghamton. He registered six strikeouts despite only getting five swinging strikes on the night.

Erie (61-46) 3, Binghamton (56-51) 0 Box Score

Bossart made his Rumble Ponies debut in the second game of today’s doubleheader and had one of the only three hits on the night for the team.

  • RHP Joseph Shaw: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, Loss | 1-4, 2.89 ERA, 1.32 WHIP
  • RHP Joe Zanghi: 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 1 BB | 3-2, 1.69 ERA, 1.06 WHIP

The Rumble Ponies chose to go with a bullpen game in the second half of the doubleheader with the duo of Shaw and Zanghi and outside of rough second inning they pitched decently well. Two walks and two base hits against Shaw in that inning resulted in three runs scoring which was all that the Seawolves needed to win.

St. Lucie (59-49) 9, Palm Beach (48-57) 4 Box Score

The St. Lucie offense had themselves an excellent night going 8-for-12 with runners in scoring position on their way to scoring nine runs on the day. Lagrange continued his incredibly hot start since being promoted to (A+) with his fourth 3-hit game in his eleventh game with the team.

  • RHP Tylor Megill: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 K, 1 BB, Win | 1-2, 5.87 ERA, 1.37 WHIP
  • RHP Connor O’Neil: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 0 BB, Save | 2-1, 5.20 ERA, 1.87 WHIP

Megill struggled in the beginning of the game, allowing three runs in the first two innings, but settled in afterwards retiring nine of next ten batters he faced and erasing the only hit he allowed on a double play. O’Neil picked up right where Megill left off, retiring five of the first ten batters he faced via strikeout before allowing a solo home run in the ninth inning.

Columbia (40-65) 3, Kannapolis (47-60) 0 Box Score

  • 3B Mark Vientos: 1-for-4, R, HR(11), 2 RBI(53), K | .254/.301/.413

Vientos provided the only fireworks the Fireflies would need in this one as his two run home run in the first inning of the game turned out to be the deciding factor offensively.

  • RHP Alec Kisena: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 1 BB, Win | 2-2, 3.92 ERA, 1.59 WHIP
  • RHP Allan Winans: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB, Save | 0-2, 2.97 ERA, 1.05 WHIP

Jose Butto, Kisena, Danny Hrbek, and Winans combined to strike out nine batters on their way to a shut-out victory over the Intimidators. Kisena has been superb over his last ten appearances posting a 1.32 ERA across 27 2/3 IP with 34 strikeouts.

Lowell (29-15) 3, Cyclones (25-19) 1 Box Score

The Cyclones offense was held in check by 2019 Draftee and Naval Academy graduate Noah Song and Cuban import Yusniel Padron-Artilles striking out thirteen times in the game while only collecting six hits in total. After a rough start to his professional career, Duplantis has been on a hot streak lately recording his fourth multi-hit performance in the last ten games.

  • RHP Matt Cleveland: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 8 K, 2 BB | 3-2, 3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP
  • LHP Andrew Edwards: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, Loss | 0-2, 2.41 ERA, 0.91 WHIP

Cleveland was solid once again for the Cyclones setting a new career high for strikeouts in a game with eight. Over his last four starts, Cleveland has a 0.84 ERA while holding opponents to a .171 AVG/.429 OPS. Cleveland exited with the game still tied up at 0-0, but the bullpen couldn’t sustain the shutout performance as the usually excellent Edwards struggled with his command allowing two base hits, walking one, and hitting a batter in the sixth inning. The damage against should have been worse but excellent defensive plays by Duplantis, Ortega, and shortstop Yoel Romero cut down two additional runs at home plate.

Bluefield (21-19) 7, Kingsport (17-23) 5 Box Score

  • DH Brett Baty: 1-for-4, 2B, K | .171/.301/.357
  • RF Scott Ota: 2-for-5, R, HR(3), RBI(11), K | .252/.341/.439

The Kingsport offense had plenty of base-runners and opportunities to score runs as they combined for seven hits and drew five walks on the day, but, they couldn’t drive them in going 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Aside from Ota’s solo home run in the eighth inning, all of their runs were a result of errors committed by the Blue Jays defense.

  • LHP Christofer Dominguez: 2.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 2-2, 3.41 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
  • RHP Brendan Hardy: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 2 BB | 1-1, 5.19 ERA, 1.56 WHIP

Dominguez had his worst performance of the season as he was knocked around for five runs on seven hits including three doubles. The usual dependable left hander saw his ERA climb from 2.05 to 3.41 and his WHIP from 1.10 to 1.24 due to the one-off performance.

GCL Mets (18-13) 3, GCL Astros (14-17) 1 Box Score

Corona continues to show no signs of slowing down racking up another two hits to finish the month with a .297 AVG/.817 OPS for the GCL team. Even more impressive is his minuscule 14.1% K rate, the fact that he’s struck out only once in the last week, and the fact that he drawn as many walks as he has strikeouts across the entire season (22 K vs 22 BB).

  • RHP Robert Colina: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 1 BB, Win | 3-2, 2.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP

Colina recorded his best performance since opening day for the DSL Mets2 team with five shutout innings as the piggyback for Joander Suarez. It was also his fourth straight appearance striking out three.

DSL Mets2 (24-27) 10, DSL Diamondbacks2 (23-27) 0 Box Score

The DSL Mets2 exploded for six runs on five hits and two walks in the ninth inning to put this game well out of reach. The inning was capped off by a two run home run by De Los Santos, his second in the last five games.

  • RHP Martin Rodriguez: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 2 BB, Win | 1-0, 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP

This was Rodriguez’s best performance of the season after struggling mightily for the DSL Mets1 team for most of the season.
