Brandon Nimmo Batting

RENO 3, LAS VEGAS 0

Dana Eveland turned in a great performance Monday night, tossing 5.2 innings of six hit ball and only allowing one earned run. He walked a single batter and struck out eight. However, his solid outing was all for naught as the 51s offense could not put a run across the board and Eveland eventually suffered the loss. Vic Black threw an inning of relief and although, he did not give up an earned run, it was an ugly one. It took him 21 pitches to record three outs and he only threw seven of those pitches for strikes. He ended up giving up one unearned run on a hit and two walks. There’s not much to talk about on the offensive side as not one hitter recorded more than one hit. In his final rehab game, Juan Lagares had a single in four at-bats. Andrew Brown collected the only extra base hit with a double.

Rafael Montero will look to get his season back on track on Tuesday night after a shaky couple of starts.

AKRON 4, BINGHAMTON 0

The Binghamton offense was shut down by Akron on Monday. They could only muster up four hits the whole game as Will Roberts twirled six beautiful innings against them. It was Tyler Pill who was on the losing end of this one as he suffered his fourth loss of the season. He didn’t pitch badly, however, he tossed five innings, only allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out four.  Matt Reynolds was the only bright spot on offense, going 3 for 4 with a triple and raised his batting average to .389 on the season. Reynolds wasn’t much to write home about on the defensive side of the ball, however, as he committed two errors.

Hansel Robles will look to continue his solid start to the season on Tuesday.

ST. LUCIE 7, CHARLOTTE 3

Matt Koch pitched a very good game on Monday night, allowing two earned runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out five in the performance, improving to 2-0 on the season. It was a good night all around for the St. Lucie offense as six of nine starters tallied at least one hit. It was Brandon Nimmo, however, who completely stole the spotlight in this one. In four at-bats, Nimmo cracked four hits, including a double and a home run. He also scored two runs and drove in two more. T.J. Rivera also collected another two hits in four at-bats, raising his batting average to .407 on the year. He also scored a run and added an RBI as well.

The St. Lucie Mets are now 14-10 as Gabriel Ynoa looks to get on track Tuesday in another matchup against Charlotte.

SAVANNAH – OFF DAY

The Sand Gnats were off on Monday after losing to Lakewood on Sunday. They will start a three game series against Delmarva on Tuesday.

Kevin McGowan will take the ball as he looks for his first win of the season.

PLAYER OF THE NIGHT

Brandon Nimmo went 4 for 4 with a double and a home run. He also scored two runs and drove in another two. Nimmo has remained scorching hot through his first 24 games of A+ ball. His line sits at .407/.530/.549 in 91 at bats; not an incredibly small sample size considering the amount of walks he’s taken. It was even more fitting that Nimmo’s eye-popping performance came on the same day as MMN’s Teddy Klein profiled him in a Prospect Spotlight post.
