Kevin McGowan

RENO 7, LAS VEGAS 5

It was a rough showing for the 51’s, one in which Rafael Montero earned his first loss of the season. After starting out strong, Montero five runs in the fourth inning before being pulled. On the day, Montero threw 4.0 innings giving up three hits and three earned runs while walking four. Two fielding errors in the fourth, and four total errors in the game only added to the struggles. Wilmer Flores hit well, going 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, although he did strikeout three times. Juan Lagares came in and hit a double in his only at-bat, as did Anthony Seratelli. After their second inning score, the 51’s added two runs in the fifth and two in the eighth, although it just wouldn’t be enough to close the gap this time.

Noah Syndergaard is set to make the start on Wednesday at Cashman Field.

AKRON 4, BINGHAMTON 3

The B-Mets lost a tight one after failing to bounce back after giving up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh. After taking a 3-1 lead in the second inning off of a Wilfredo Tovar home run, Binghamton gave up two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to fall 4-3. Matt Clark went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Dustin Lawley went 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout. The B-Mets pitching did OK, with Hansel Robles pitching 5.2 innings giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out two, while Jack Leathersich got the loss giving up one run on two hits in one inning pitched.

CHARLOTTE 11, ST. LUCIE 2

The St. Lucie Mets got whacked by the Charlotte Stone Crabs 11-2 after a poor showing all-around. Gabriel Ynoa took the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits and walking three in only 4.2 innings pitched. Dilson Herrera went 2 for 5 with one strikeout and a run scored, while Eudy Pina went 1-2 with two walks.

Steven Matz looks to continue his solid season on Wednesday against Leonel Santiago.

SAVANNAH 4, DELMARVA 0

The Sand Gnats had a great game blanking the Delmarva Shorebirds. Kevin McGowan had an absolutely outstanding performance pitching 6.2 innings, giving up only three hits while striking out seven, before Robert Coles came in in relief. Jared King went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Gavin Cecchini and L.J. Mazzilli also had a hit on the day.

Ricky Knapp looks to take his first win of the season Wednesday when he faces off against Steven Brault.

PLAYER OF THE NIGHT

Kevin McGowan had a great showing pitching 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out seven, essentially outpitching the Orioles 2013 first round pick Hunter Harvey. With the win McGowan moves to 1-1 on the year while improving his ERA to 3.54.
