Mets Minors Recap: Benge Leads Cyclones To Victory

The Mets’ 2024 first-round pick, Carson Benge, is heating up. He slugged his second home run of the season while raising his season triple slash to .291/.390/.442 (.832 OPS). Over his last 10 games, Benge has recorded five extra-base hits, six multi-hit games, and a 7:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (15-18) 3,  Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (21-12) 4 In 10 Innings

BOX SCORE

The Syracuse Mets lost their Tuesday matchup against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 3-2, in extra innings. The Mets made plenty of contact (striking out only twice) but struggled to string hits together. De Los Santos was Syracuse’s main source of offense, recording the team’s only extra-base hit and driving in two of their three runs.

Blackburn made a successful first Triple-A rehab start for Syracuse, striking out five batters over 3.2 IP. It was Blackburn’s third overall appearance since returning to the mound after a Spring Training knee-soreness injury.

Double A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-11), Reading Fightin Phils (7-18) PPD

Tuesday’s Binghamton Rumble Ponies game was postponed due to inclement weather.  The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, May 10th starting at noon.

High-A

 Brooklyn Cyclones (18-9) 5, Asheville Tourists (12-16) 4

BOX SCORE

The Cyclones came out on top, 5-4, over the Asheville Tourists, despite a ninth-inning comeback attempt by the home team. Tuesday’s lineup sheet was filled top to bottom with Top 30-ranked prospects, and their performance reflected that. Led by outfielders Carson Benge and Eli Serrano, the Cyclones tallied 11 hits, including Benge’s second home run of the season.

Diaz threw another stellar outing for the Cyclones, where he lowered his season ERA to 0.72. Through 25.0 innings this year, the 21-year-old has 30 strikeouts and has walked only two batters.

Low-A

 St Lucie Mets (16-12) 6, Clearwater Threshers (15-13) 1

BOX SCORE

On Tuesday evening, Colin Houck smacked two extra-base hits in St. Lucie’s 6-1 victory over Clearwater. Houck has started the month of May hot, slashing .333/.400/.556 with three extra-base hits and two multi-hit games in 18 at-bats.

Ronny Mauricio continued his initial rehab assignment in St. Lucie but will travel to Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday to resume play on Friday.

The Matt Allan comeback story continued on Tuesday, where the 24-year-old right-hander threw two more scoreless innings, lowering his season ERA to 1.93 in 14 IP.

FCL 

FCL Astros (3-0) 9, FCL Mets (0-2) 8

BOX SCORE

The FCL Mets dropped their match up against the FCL Astros Tuesday afternoon by 9-8. While the offense was hot (eight runs on eight hits), the back end of the pitching staff could not shut the game down, allowing 5 runs in the top of the ninth.
