Binghamton (20-12) 7, Altoona (18-18) 0 Box Score

Through the first five innings of this game, the Rumble Ponies had scored the game’s lone run on only one hit, a sac bunt, and a sac fly. The offense would break the game wide open though in the sixth inning with a six-run rally that was capped off by a Dario Pizzano three-run home run to give them a 7-0 lead. Mazieka and Barnes both had RBI doubles in the same inning.

  • LHP Anthony Kay:  7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 8 K, 1 BB, Win | 4-2, 1.24 ERA, 0.87 WHIP

Anthony Kay tossed the best start of his minor league career with a complete game (seven innings) shut out, striking out eight while only allowing three hits and one walk on the night. The start’s 78 Game Score just barely tops his April 22nd 6.0 IP, 10 K performance from earlier this year.

Binghamton (21-12) 5, Altoona (18-19) 1 Box Score

The second game of this doubleheader was pretty much the spitting image of the first game as the game was tied 1-1 all the way into the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Patrick Mazeika launched a walk-off grand slam over the right field wall to give the Rumble Ponies their second victory of the day.

  • LHP David Peterson:  5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 K, 0 BB | 1-2, 4.55 ERA, 1.61 WHIP
  • RHP Ryley Gilliam: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, Win | 2-0, 2.25 ERA, 0.88 WHIP

After watching his teammate post the best start of his career, Peterson stepped out onto the mound and tossed his own best start of the 2019 season with a five-inning, seven strikeout performance. He would not stick around to earn the win but top relief prospect Gilliam held the game at 1-1 with two perfect innings of work including four strikeouts to earn his second win of the season from the Binghamton pen.

Augusta (19-18) 3, Columbia (13-25) 2 Box Score

There were plenty of base hits for the Fireflies in this game, however, the team was unable to string them together at the same time resulting in only two runs scoring on the day. Mauricio drove in the first run of the game in the top of the third inning with a line drive to left field to bring home Lagrange. Lagrange would drive in the team’s other run with his own line drive to left field to drive in Molina.

  • RHP Willy Taveras: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 K, 1 BB, Loss | 2-5, 4.02 ERA, 1.35 WHIP
  • RHP Ezequiel Zabaleta: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB | 0-0, 2.04 ERA, 0.85 WHIP

Taveras pitched a pretty good game in this one allowing only five base hits. Unfortunately, two of those hits were home runs that he allowed in the fourth and fifth innings which accounted for all three of the Greenjackets runs. Zabaleta entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on first and second and retired both of the batters he faced to strand both of them. He would also toss a perfect eighth inning as well generating two ground-outs and a fly-out to finish out the game.
