LAS VEGAS 5S – OFF DAY

The Las Vegas 51s had the night off on Wednesday. Giancarlo Alvarado will make the start against El Paso on Thursday.

TAMPA 7, ST. LUCIE 1

Michael Fulmer suffered his third loss of the season in what was still a solid start for the young righthander. He tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. Despite Fulmer’s effort, his ERA still sits at an ugly 5.56 on the season. It was an extremely quiet night for the St. Lucie offense as they could only muster four hits; two of them belonging to the red hot T.J. Rivera who drove in the only run of the game. Brandon Nimmo scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after leading off with a triple. Domingo Tapia is scheduled to start on Thursday against Tampa.

BINGHAMTON 5, ALTOONA 3

Greg Peavey picked up his third consecutive win in his third consecutive solid start on Wednesday as he brought his best stuff of the season to the ballpark. He went seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk, while striking out nine. After his outing, his ERA improved to 3.05 on the season. Leadoff hitter and center fielder Kyle Johnson sparked the offense, contributing two hits and walk. He scored a run and drove in two. Matt Clark also had a nice game clubbing two doubles in four at-bats with a run scored and an RBI. Darin Gorski gets the ball on Thursday against Altoona.

SAVANNAH 6, GREENVILLE 1

Dario Alvarez twirled a gem on Wednesday night as he turned in five beautiful innings, allowing three hits and a walk while recording 12 of his 15 outs via the strikeout. It was his second start of the season and also his second win. Gavin Cecchini picked up right where he left off after his hit streak ended a couple nights ago going 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored. His average rose to .268 on the season. Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith also added an RBI each. All but two Savannah starters recorded a hit in this one. Thursday night’s starter against Greenville is to be determined.

PLAYER OF THE NIGHT

Dario Alvarez, who recorded 12 strikeouts in five innings, is plenty enough to convince me that he earned the honors for Wednesday nights outstanding player.
