Mets Minors Recap: Gilbert Doubles, McNeil and Alvarez Continue Rehab Assigments

It was a dominant day for all the minor league teams on Sunday. Brandon Waddell continued his strong start to the season, tossing five scoreless innings for Syracuse in a 7-0 win over the IronPigs. Drew Gilbert doubled in a run, continuing his rehab assignment in Port St Lucie, collecting two hits while doubling in a run. Gilbert could end up in Queens as early as this year, especially if Tyrone Taylor or José Azócar join José Siri on the injured list.

Triple-A

Game 1: Syracuse Mets (4-9) 0, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (11-3) 2

Box Score

Syracuse’s offense failed to generate any runs in Game 1, only mustering two hits provided by Billy McKinney and Gilberto Celestino.

José Ureña tossed 3 strong innings backed up by 2.2 innings from the bullpen provided by Austin Warren and Rico Garcia.

 

Game 2: Syracuse Mets (5-9) 7, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (11-4) 0

Box Score

The Syracuse bats came alive in game 2 with run-scoring doubles from Luke Ritter and Jon Singleton and two RBI singles from Joey Meneses.

Brandon Waddell threw five scoreless innings backed up by two scoreless innings from the bullpen, paving the way for a 7-0 victory over the IronPigs.

Double-A

Binghampton Rumble Ponies 2  (3-4), Hartford Yard Goats (5-3) 1

Box Score

The Rumble Ponies outpitched the Yard Goats, ending in a final score of 2-1, on the backs of a Wyatt Young home run and sacrifice fly.

Nolan McLean continued to impress, throwing five innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts, backed up by four scoreless innings from Joander Suarez.

High A

Hudson Valley Renegades (5-4) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (6-3) 8

Box Score

The Cyclones thrashed the Renegades on Sunday by a score of 8-1. D’Andre Smith knocked in a 3-run double, and Chris Suero smacked his third homer of the season, alongside 3 RBIs from Ronald Hernandez.

The pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts across the boxscore with notable contributions from R.J. Gordon and Anthony Nunez.

 

Low-A

Lakeland Flying Tigers (4-5) 2, St. Lucie Mets (4-5) 1

Box Score

St Lucie’s bats struggled in a 2-1 loss to the Tigers.  Drew Gilbert smacked an RBI double, going 2-for-4, continuing his rehab assignment, and Jesus Baez also smacked multiple hits. McNeil and Alvarez also continued their respective rehab assignments combining one hit over seven at-bats, with three strikeouts.

Right-hander Chandler Marsh posted a strong outing on Sunday. Throwing 1.1 innings while striking out two.
