SACRAMENTO 9, LAS VEGAS 5
Greg Peavey just did not have it in this one as he was knocked around for six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. He allowed seven hits and walked five, while striking out four. Zack Thorton also struggled through an inning of relief allowing two hits and two runs. On the offensive side, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Andrew Brown both clubbed home runs; Kirk’s a three run shot and Brown’s a two run shot. It’s worth noting that Cesar Puello sat again. He’s been doing an awful lot of that lately.
BINGHAMTON 5, NEW BRITAIN 0
The B-Mets would shut out New Britain on Memorial Day as Darin Gorski twirled a masterpiece. He went the distance, allowing just two hits all afternoon. He walked one and struck out six. The B-Mets scored two in the bottom of the first inning on a Matt Clark single and that’s all they would need to top New Britain. Kevin Plawecki went 2 for 4 with another double. Dustin Lawley went 1 for 3 while slugging a two-run home run in the bottom of the 4th. Matthew Bowman takes on New Hampshire on Tuesday.
ST. LUCIE METS – DAY OFF
St. Lucie had Memorial Day off and Michael Fulmer will get the ball on Tuesday to begin a four game series against Brevard County.
SAVANNAH 2, AUGUSTA 0
Kevin McGowan made the Start for the Gnats on Monday afternoon and pitched seven innings of extremely efficient baseball. He only struck out two batters in this outing but he only allowed four baserunners. The Gnats had a quiet day in the run column but they did put seven hits on the board. In the top of the sixth inning, Jorge Rivero doubled in Jeff McNeil for the first run. Savannah’s second run came across in the top of the eighth inning as LJ Mazzilli to triple in Jeff McNeil, who scored both runs of the ballgame. The game was called due to rain after with Savannah earning the early victory. Ricky Knapp will get the ball on Tuesday against Augusta.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Darin Gorski was impressive once again as he tossed his first nine inning complete game on the season by pitching 9 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K. In his last 50 innings he has given up just six runs and is 3-1 (1 ND) in that span.

Are the Mets preparing Puello to be a platoon player?
It is very telling that Backman would have taken ANY MLB job he was offered but had no choice but to sit tight. Can’t blame the guy.
I am glad that he didn’t take any other jobs, I think he truly believes in the youth of the organization and knows if he continues to win at this level that he will get his call. Hopefully the Mets will wake up and just hand him the job already, makes better sense. A players manager that knows how to put the right guys in there and isn’t afraid to ruffle any feathers is what the team needs to win.
