FRESNO 7, LAS VEGAS 5

After a string of hot starts and recent call-ups Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom making their debuts for the New York Mets, Greg Peavey received a promotion. He was roughed up in his first start for the 51s on Monday night as he allowed six earned runs on eight hits in four innings pitched, while striking out four and walking two. He eventually received the loss as the 51s failed to fight their way back from an early deficit. Andrew Brown, Zach Lutz and Brandon Allen all had multi-hit games with several other starters contributing as well. Kirk Nieuwenhuis slugged a home run as well. The 51s put up twelve hits and five runs on the board but it was not enough to top Fresno. Giancarlo Alvarado gets the ball on Tuesday night. (Box score)

BINGHAMTON 5, PORTLAND 0 – GAME 1

Hansel Robles and Henry Owens faced off in game one of the doubleheader on Monday night. Robles twirled six innings of efficiency in his start as he went six innings without issuing a walk. He allowed six hits and struck out two. Matt Reynolds continued his solid season, going 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored. Kevin Plawecki stayed hot, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. His batting average now sits at a gaudy .336 on the season. It was Matt Clark, however, who did the most damage on offense, clubbing a three-run home run in the fifth inning, his eighth of the season. Darrell Ceciliani also had a two hit game and drove in a run as well. (Box score)

PORTLAND 8, BINGHAMTON 2 – GAME 2

The B-Mets were outmatched early and often during the second game of Monday night’s doubleheader as Angel Huan was clubbed for eight earned runs on twelve hits in four innings pitched. He allowed two home runs, while walking one and striking out two. Binghamton could not manage much on the offensive side of the ball either as Jayce Boyd was the only player with more than one hit. He also drove in one of two runs the B-Mets scored during the second tilt with Travis Taijeron driving in the other. (Box score)

ST. LUCIE 5, LAKELAND 4

It was Steven Matz’s turn in the rotation on Monday night and he did not disappoint. He went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Matz’s ERA is now down to 2.22 on the season. Nearly everyone in the St. Lucie lineup got in on the action on Monday. Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo and TJ Rivera all had multi hit games. Herrera (.323 AVG) knocked in two runs on three hits, including a double. Brandon Nimmo (.333 AVG)  knocked in a run with a double as well. TJ Rivera went 2 for 5 and scored a run. St. Lucie’s 1-2-3 punch is among the best in the Florida State League right now. Cam Maron (.379 AVG) also knocked in two with a 1 for 4 night. (Box score)

SAVANNAH 6, CHARLESTON 0

Kevin McGowan turned in a very good start on Monday night for the Gnats, tossing seven innings of two hit baseballs, without allowing a run. He walked two and struck out four to earn the win. Savannah went wild on offense tonight. Jorge Rivera clubbed a two run home run in the second inning on his only hit of the night. LJ Mazzilli hit his third home run of the season to lead off the third inning, also contributing another hit and two walks. Dominic Smith also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. (Box score

PLAYER OF THE NIGHT

Steven Matz limited Lakeland to three runs (two earned) on seven hits through six innings but it was his eight strikeouts and zero walks that earned him the honors.
