Mazzilli singles in the 12th inning to drive in the winning run to defeat Rome 3-2. He went 3-for-5

RENO 4, LAS VEGAS 3

Darin Gorski would make his first Triple-A start of the season on Saturday, but a four-run seventh inning by the Aces would spoil it, as the 51’s would fall to Reno 4-3.  Gorski and the 51’s were cruising right along with a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.  Two singles, a passed ball, a hit batter, and a sacrifice bunt later, Gorski was pulled still clinging to a 3-2 lead with one runner left on for reliever John Church.  Church came in and struck out the first batter he faced and gave the appearance that he would have gotten Las Vegas out of trouble.  Unfortunately that feeling only last until the next batter when Reno’s Alfredo Marte hit a 2-run home run, that would eventually be the game-winner.  Church was charged with a blown save and was on the hook for the loss.  Things were looking up for the 51’s early as they scratched across three early but couldn’t hold on.  There has been quite a contrast from April to May for Las Vegas due in part to roster moves.  The 51’s finished May with a record of 15-14 (19-8 in April).  Brandon Allen led the way with two hits for Las Vegas, with Omar Quintanilla recording the only two RBI for the team.  Game two of the series is scheduled for Sunday with the starter not announced yet.  (box score)

NEW BRITAIN 3, BINGHAMTON 2

Matthew Bowman would strike out 12, but the Binghamton Mets would lose the game to New Britain 3-2.  Bowman who started the season 3-0, hasn’t won a game since April 26th.  The 12 K’s would tie his season high and would be the third time this season that he has recorded 11 or more punch outs.  Unfortunately Binghamton’s offense sputtered for the second game in a row and the had a difficult time bringing runners home after they got them on.  Kyle Johnson and Matt Clark each had three hits for Binghamton, but as a whole they would strand 13 on base and would go 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.  The B-Mets didn’t end May the way they would have hoped dropping two straight, but would have more success once the calender changed from April.  Binghamton will wrap up the three-game series with New Britain on Sunday with Greg Peavey on the mound.  (box score)

ST. LUCIE 4, DAYTONA 3

The St. Lucie Mets would withstand a late charge by Daytona on Saturday to win the game 4-3.  Gabriel Ynoa would pitch a great game for St. Lucie giving them six innings giving up just one run while striking out four.  Benefiting from a four-run sixth, Ynoa would pick up his fifth win of the season.  Jairo Perez was the offensive standout for the Mets going 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple.  T.J. Rivera who has been absent from the lineup since May 27th chimed in with a 1-for-4 night driving in his 43rd run of the season.  The second of four between these two teams is Sunday with Steven Matz on the bump looking for his first win since April 24th.  (box score)

SAVANNAH 6, ROME 2

The Savannah Sand Gnats picked up their 36th win of the season by defeating the Rome Braves 6-2 on Saturday.  Robert Gsellman started for Savannah and threw an effective seven innings giving up both Rome runs, while striking out four.  It was his first win since returning from the disabled list and his third of the season.  Akeel Morris and Tim Peterson came in and threw two perfect innings with five strikeouts securing the win.  Champ Stuart went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, which was a solo shot in the seventh inning.  He would also drive in two more runs by games end.  L.J. Mazzilli extended his hit streak to 10 games with a 2-for-4 night.  He has hit .436 during the streak and has raised his batting average from .245 to .284.  The Sand Gnats wrap up their series with Rome on Sunday.  John Gant is scheduled to start and is looking for his sixth win of the season.  (box score)

METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT

Saturday went a little better for the Mets minor leagues teams.  After being swept on Friday they were able to get halfway back on track.  L.J. Mazzilli extending his hit streak to ten games is certainly enough to give him the top honor of the night and name him the Mets Minors Player of the Night.
