Mets Minors Recap: Nimmo, Plawecki Go Yard; Diaz Continues to Shine

FRESNO 6, LAS VEGAS 3

Veteran left-hander Dana Eveland got the start for the 51s and pitched well enough to win, but was let down by his bullpen.The 30-year old went six innings, allowed two runs, struck out eight and walked just one. Leadoff man Cesar Puello went 2 for 5 with a triple and a run scored. Josh Satin and Allan Dykstra both notched two hits each while Zach Lutz and Andrew Brown each had one hit and one run scored. Jeff Walters relieved Eveland and was dreadful, allowing three runs on three hits and only retiring one batter. His ERA now stands at 9.39 on the season. The 51s will head home to take on Sacramento on Friday night. Logan Verrett takes the ball for the 51s with first pitched scheduled for 10:05 PM ET. (box score)

PORTLAND 6, BINGHAMTON 5

Rainy Lara took the mound for the B-Mets and struggled. He pitched just three innings, surrendered three runs and walked four while striking out three. Matt Reynolds paced the Mets offense, going 3 for 5 with a double and is now hitting .352 on the season. Catcher Kevin Plawecki slugged his second homerun of the season. Jayce Boyd and Dustin Lawley contributed two hits apiece in the losing effort. Jack Leathersich relieved Lara and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one. The Mets took a lead into the ninth but Cody Satterwhite couldn’t hold it as he blew his first save of the season. Binghamton will take on the New Britain Rock Cats at home Friday night. First pitched is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET. (box score)

ST. LUCIE 6, CLEARWATER 4

Alex Panteliodis made his first start of the season for St. Lucie and earned the win. The 23-year old southpaw went 6.1 innings, allowed two runs and struck out five without surrendering a walk. St. Lucie took a first inning lead when Dilson Herrera lead off the game and eventually came around to score. The red-hot second basemen finished the game 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk. Brandon Nimmo went deep for his third homerun of the season. He finished the game 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. T.J. Rivera started the game at third base and had a couple of hits and RBIs to raise his season average to .374. Beck Wheeler earned the save and struck out two. These two teams will face off again Friday night. Right-hander Matt Koch gets the ball in the contest, which is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET. (box score)

SAVANNAH 4, LEXINGTON 0

Miller Diaz took the ball for the Sand Gnats and was brilliant once again. The Venezuelan right-hander tossed 6.1 shutout innings, walking three and striking out eight on his way to his fifth win. He now sports a sparkling 1.45 ERA on the season. Akeel Morris extending his scoreless innings streak to 22.2, going 1.2 innings and striking out three without allowing a hit. L.J. Mazzilli lead the charge offensively, going 2 for 4 with his fourth homer of the season. Dominic Smith added two hits of his own, one of them a double on his way to a 2 for 3 game. The first basemen drove in one and walked once as well. Matt Oberste and Jeff McNeil pitched in with a two each. The Sand Gnats will take on the Legends again Friday night with first pitched scheduled for 7:05 PM ET. 20-year old Robert Gsellman takes the mound in search of his third win. (box score)
